Barnes & Noble in Clay Hosting Our Music/Poetry Program

I'll be heading up to Clay, New York and presenting the "Revisiting the '60s in Song and Rhyme" program with Matthew Wood and Gina Holsopple. The program is based on my latest book of poetry, Reach Out in the Darkness: How Pop Music Saved My Mortal Soul, and features some great cover versions of those '60s songs performed my Gina and Matthew. Here's the details for the event:

Tuesday, July 14th at 7 p.m. at Barnes & Noble Bookstore on Route 31 in Clay. The show is about 45 minutes long.

Telling Stories at the Oswego County Fair

One of the stories I'll be telling is about John and Anna Fiumara. John was born in Italy and when he was 16, while serving his country as a Merchant Marine, he "jumped ship" in Baltimore, Maryland. From there, John traveled north to Fulton, New York, where he met Anna and established a muck farm in the Scriba area. John's story is an example of the lengths people went to establish a good life in the United States and that led to the success of muck farms.

Poetry Reading at the Central Square Library

On Sunday, June 7th at 6 pm, I'll be at the Central Square Library sharing poems from my latest book, Reach Out in the Darkness: How Pop Music Saved My Mortal Soul. The book's theme focuses on how the music of the 1960s and '70s profoundly influenced my teen years. While the poems are understandably personal to my experience, audiences from previous presentations have noted how they were able to relate them to their own turbulent years. Part of the reason for this is because of the performances by Matthew Wood and Gina Holsopple, who will accompany me at the presentation with great cover versions of some of those '60s songs. Hearing Gina recreate Janis Joplin or Matthew evoke James Taylor always inspires my readings of the poems. I look forward to this event and hope you can join us.
